Additional information

Study reports have been available for consideration in respect of acute tests with fish, invertebrates, algae and micro-organism. As in all studies up to the highest tested concentration of at least 100 mg/l but also above no effects were seen, no hazard was identified and consequently no PNECs for the environment were derived.

Conclusion on classification

No effects/mortality were seen in acute tests up to 100 mg/L with 1,2-hexanediol or structural similar substances. Therefore, 1,2 -hexanediol is not classified for acute aquatic toxicity as per EU CLP (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008) or DSD (Directive 67/548/EEC). As the substance is readily biodegradable and the log Pow is < 3 (4), also classification for chronic aquatic toxicity is not required.
