Description of key information
The test item is readily biodegradable.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Biodegradation in water:
- readily biodegradable
Additional information
The ready biodegradability of the test item was assessed according to OECD guideline 301 F ( Dr. U. Noack-Laboratorien, 2007) using activated sludge and a non-adapted method during a 28 day incubation period. The test item reached the 10% level after 1 day and the pass level of 60% after 8 days. The mean biodegradation came to 99% after 28 days. In conclusion, the test item Crotonic acid must be regarded as readily biodegradable in the 10-d-window.
In addition, in a sewage waste water investigation (Hoechst AG, 1979) Crotonic acid showed a degradation of > 65%.
