Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets
Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
The pieces of information that build the weight of evidence are the following:
A) Sokolowski & Burczyk (1979)
Purity of 99%
Method not described
Density value: 0.9947 g/cm³ at 20°C
B) Nazaretyan et al. (1985)
Purity and Method not described
Density value:0.8357 g/cm³ at 20°C
C) Salomaa (1961)
Purity and Method not described
Density value:0.9950 g/cm³ at 20°C
D) Salmi (1932)
Purity and Method not described
Density value:0.9921 g/cm³ at 20°C
Relative density of 0.8357; 0.9947; 0.995 and 0.9921 at 20°C has been observed in the literature. The mean value is therefore 0.9544
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Relative density at 20C:
- 0.954
Additional information
The weight of evidence approach is justified as determined from more than one piece of information (independent sources). We claim the reliability, relevance, adequacy and quality of the weight of evidence:
- Reliability: Klimisch score of 2 is assigned to the studies
- Relevance:
o Relevance of test material: substance purity of 99% in one publication and not specified in ither publications without affecting the reproducibility of the endpoint value. The test material is equivalent to the submission substance identity.
o Relevance of test method and conditions: the tested method is not described.
o Relevance of the endpoint: the values obtained extend over more than 50 years and show a good reproducibility.
- Adequacy: the endpoints, whereas obtained from not internationally approved test guideline, with different sources and purity of test item lead to a clear trend and a mean value of 0.9544.
- Quantity: four pieces of information are considered.
