- The autoignition temperature (AIT) of the chemical in air at atmospheric pressure is 492 °C.
- Executive summary:
A small-metered sample of the material to be tested is inserted into a uniformly heated 0.5-liter glass flask containing air at a predetermined temperature. The content of the flask is observed in a darkened room for ten (10) minutes following insertion of the sample or until autoignition
occurs. Autoignition is evidenced by the sudden appearance of a flame inside the flask and by a sharp rise in the temperature of the gas mixture. The lowest internal flask temperature at which hot-flame ignition occurs for a series of prescribed sample volumes is taken to be the hot-flame
autoignition temperature (AIT) of the chemical in air at atmospheric pressure. In the initial trail 1-5, the cylinder containing Opteon™ MZ was at ambient laboratory room temperature. (19-20 C). Since there was not enough vapor pressure at ambient room temperature, the sample cylinder was conditioned in water bath at about 40-42°C prior to withdraw the gas sample for trial 6-25. The auto-ignition temperature tests were conducted in 560-ml flask and at atmospheric pressure.
The AIT results for material tested are 492 °C.
