The bulk density of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one by the mass by volume method was found to be 0.572 g/cm3 at room temperature of 27 °C . This value when converted for 20 deg C found to be equivalent to 0.423.
Supporting Study shows value different from Key study which could be due to difference in the estimation conditions. However for the purpose of chemical safety assessment key study value 0.423 shall be considered.
Particle size distribution (Granulometry)
The particle size distribution (granulometry) of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one by the sieve analysis method was found to be in the range of 500 micrometer to 1000 micrometer. Majority of the particles were found to be in the range of 600 (57.69%) - 710 (31.19%) micrometer in size.
Vapour pressure
Vapour pressure of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one was estimated to be 0.0000704 mmHg at 25 °C. This value when converted into Pascal (Pa) found to be equivalent to 0.009385895 Pa at a temperature of 25 Deg C.
Supporting Study shows value different from Key study which could be due to difference in the estimation conditions. However for the purpose of chemical safety assessment key study value 0.009385895 Pa shall be considered.
Partition coefficient
The experimental value of octanol water partition co-efficient (log Pow) of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one by shake flask method was found to be 1.5224 at 27 degC and pH of 4.16. This value indicates that 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is relatively hydrophilic in nature.
Supporting Study shows value different from Key study which could be due to difference in the estimation conditions. However for the purpose of chemical safety assessment key study value 1.52 shall be considered.
Water solubility
The water solubility of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one was found to be 760 mg/L at 27°C using shake flask method indicating that test substance is moderately soluble in water.
Supporting Study shows value different from Key study which could be due to difference in the estimation conditions. However for the purpose of chemical safety assessment key study value 760 mg/l shall be considered.
Solubility in organic solvent / Fat solubility:
The experimental value of solubility of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one in ethanol at temperature of 27deg C was found to be 4200 mg/L indicating that 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is soluble in ethanol. Using the Soxhlet/Solvent extraction method the solubility of the substance in Petroleum ether is observed to be 40 mg/L at 27°C, indicating that the substance is slightly soluble in petroleum ether.
Surface tension
In accordance with coloumn 2 of Annex VII, this end point was waived since 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is a solid substance and surface activity is not a deisred proerty of the solid
Flash point
The experimental value of flash point of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl) ethan-1-one by the open cup method was found to be 158 degC at 966 hPa indicating that substance is not flammable. This value when converted for 101 325 pascal found to be equivalent to 165.72 degC.
Auto flammability
The autoignition temperature or kindling point of a substance is the lowest temperature at which it will spontaneously ignite in a normal atmosphere without an external source of ignition, such as a flame or spark. The auto ignition temperature of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one was determined in the laboratory but it was found that this chemical do not catch fire at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. Thus it can be concluded that 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is not auto flammable.
Flammability
1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one was found to be flammable when an igntition source having temperature of around 950°C was brought in close contact with it. However, such high temperature do not exist under normal conditions of use or transportation and hence 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is considered to be a non-flammable solid
Explosiveness
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII, this testing was considered for waiver since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive propoeties in 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one
Oxidising properties
1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one was found to be oxidising since 139.8 ml of KMnO4 was required for getting the end point of the redox titration for 100 g of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one.
Stability in organic solvents and identity of relevant degradation products
1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one was found to be stable in organic solvent dichloro methane and no degradation products were formed after 24 hours as evident from the GC-MS chromatogram obtained at 0 hours and that obtained after 24 hours.
pH:
1% by volume solution of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one was found to exhibit a pH of 6.18 at 27 deg C. Thus 1% by volume solution of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is relatively acidic in nature.
