- Conclusions:
- The vapor pressure results of cyclohexylamine benzoate in this sudy were:
253.3 Pa at Temperature of 283.15 °K (10°C)
359.9 Pa at Temperature of 294.25 °K (21.1°C)
719.8 Pa at Temperature of 323.15 °K (50°C)
1,373.0 Pa at Temperature of 353.15 °K (80°C) - Executive summary:
A stainless steel sample container was filled approximately 25% with sample and was placed on a vacuum T fitting with a shutoff valve connected to a vacuum pump on one leg and an electronic vacuum gauge on the other leg. The valve was closed and the sample container was placed in liquid nitrogen for 7 min. The sample container was removed from the liquid nitrogen, the vacuum pump was turned on, and the valve was opened.
The sample was pumped down to 0.0 mmHg on the gauge before the valve was closed. The sample was allowed to thaw for approximately 40 minutes, and the process was repeated three more times. This was done to remove any dissolved gases in the sample.
After the fourth pump down, a thermocouple was attached to the sample container and the whole apparatus was placed in a water bath set at 10°C. The sample was allowed to come to a constant vacuum reading and then the bath was set to 21.1°C and the sample was again allowed to come to a constant vacuum reading. Additional readings were taken at 50°C and 80°C.During the test, data were collected at one point per min. The last 10 to 20 measurements per temperature were averaged to obtain the vapor pressure at each temp. All bath temperature settings were set using the NIST traceable thermometer. The thermocouple attached to the sample contain was only used to determine when the temperature was constant for data processing purposes.
