A waiving of this information can be done, because human exposure is not significant.
The reaction mass is produced at one manufacturing site and is then used by the paper industry for the production of paper by the Kraft process.
The manufacture of the reaction mass is done in a closed system. As a consequence, the workers may be exposed to the reaction mass only in two specific situations: the sampling and the loading of trucks.
During the sampling, inhalation exposure may be possible via the vapour however, based on the composition, the physical state of the reaction mass (maximum 40 % aqueous solution of inorganic salts and heavy organic salts) and the vapour pressure (585 Pa at 20°C), the vapour will be mainly composed of water. Thus the inhalation exposure of the worker to the reaction mass is not significant. Dermal exposure may be possible but the workers are trained and standard personal protective equipments are worn thus resulting in a non significant dermal exposure of the workers to the reaction mass.
During the loading of trucks, inhalation exposure via vapour may only be possible for a very short duration (less than 5 minutes) when the worker close the manhole of the container once the truck is loaded. However, based on the composition, the physical state of the reaction mass (maximum 40 % aqueous solution of inorganic salts and heavy organic salts) and the vapour pressure (585 Pa at 20°C), this vapour will be mainly composed of water. Thus the inhalation exposure of the worker to the actual substance is not significant during the loading of trucks.
The use of the reaction mass by the paper industry is done in a closed system where it is entirely consumed during the Kraft process. In addition the unloading of the trucks is done without any significant exposure of the workers to the reaction mass. Thus the use of the reaction mass by the paper industry results in a non significant exposure of the workers to the reaction mass.
