Description of key information

Flammability upon ignition is not applicable.
The substance has no pyrophoric properties and does not liberate flammable gases in contact with water.
The substance is not a self-reactive substance or mixture.
The substance is not an organic peroxide.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

A study was conducted (BASFSE SIK Nr. 04/1491) according to VDI 2263 sheet 1, chapter 1.2 (Test Methods for the Determination of the Safety Characteristics of Dusts). The combustion factor was determined to be BZ=2 (short burning, rapid extinction) at room temperature and at 100 °C. Thus, it was concluded that the substance has to be classified as non-combustible solid.

Based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties and flammability in contact with water are not to be expected.

A study was conducted (BASFSE SIK-Nr. 03/1212, see IUCLID section 4.19) according to DIN 51007 to determine the thermal stability of the substance. An exothermic reaction was observed with a onset temperature of 320 °C, a peak temperature of 347 °C and an released heat amount of 440 J/g. Thus, the substance or mixture does not need to be classified as self-reactive as the heat of decomposition is greater than 300 J/g, but the onset temperature is greater than 200 °C.

The substance or mixture does not need to be classified as an organic peroxide as by definition based on their chemical structure the substance is no organic peroxide.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Dangerous Substance Directive (67/548/EEC)

Based on the chemical structure and taking into account the provisions laid down in Directive 67/548/EEC, as amended for the 31st time in Directive 2009/2/EG, the substance is not considered to be classified as flammable, flammable in contact with water or pyrophoric.

Classification, Labelling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008

Based on the chemical structure and taking into account the provisions laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as amended for the sixth time in Regulation (EC) No 605/2014, the substance is not considered to be classified as flammable, flammable in contact with water, pyrophoric, self-reactive substance or organic peroxide.
