- Conclusions:
- The log10 Pow was determined to be 5.40 using the slow-stir method
- Executive summary:
The partition coefficient (log10 Pow) of (ethoxymethoxy)cyclododecane has been determined at a test temperature of 25.0 ± 0.5 °C, using the slow-stir method, OECD TG 123.
A stock solution of test item was prepared in water saturated n-octanol at a concentration 24 g/L. In three individual vessels, 60 mL of this stock solution was then “slow stirred” with 600 mL of n-octanol saturated water. Sampling was initiated from Vessel 1 only, to act as a pilot test vessel to indicate the time required for equilibrium to be achieved. Once this was confirmed, sampling was then performed from all three test vessels. The concentration of test item in the sample solutions was determined by gas chromatography.
The results for the three individual vessels are shown in the following table:
Vessel
A
B
C
Mean Log10Pow
5.38
5.42
5.40
Standard Deviation
2.68 x 10-2
4.50 x 10-2
1.51 x 10-2
Variance
7.20 x 10-4
2.03 x 10-3
2.27 x 10-4
The weighted average log10 Pow is 5.40 and the variance weighted standard deviation is 7.98 x 10^-3.
