Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 107 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), Shake Flask Method)
Version / remarks:
1995
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Octanol/water partition coefficient was determined according to the OECD guideline 107 (shake flask method), with some adaptations. In a 10mL graduated flask, 10mL of n-octanol saturated ultra-pure water were spiked with 50 µL of analyte stock solution (conc. 10 µg/mL in water) and overlaid with 0.5 mL (1 mL, 0.25 mL) of n-octanol. Samples were stirred furiously over 3 h with a magnetic stirrer, so that a vortex inside the flask would develop and both phases could mix. At the start and the end of stirring, flasks were additionally shaken thoroughly by bare hands. Phases were then allowed to separate over 24 h.
