Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The EC50 for growth rate reduction (ERC50: 0-72h) was beyond the range tested, i.e. exceeded a TWA concentration of 2.0 mg/l.

The NOEC for growth rate reduction was 0.24 mg/l based on TWA concentrations.

The EC10 (0 -72 h) for growth rate reduction was calculated to be 1.3 mg/L based on TWA concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1.3 mg/L

Additional information

A study was performed according to OECD Guideline 201/ EU method C.3 and GLP guidelines.Under the conditions of the test, L-Glutamate monohydrate reduced growth rate of the fresh water algae species significantly at a TWA concentration of 1.0 mg/l and higher. The EC50 for growth rate reduction (ERC50: 0-72h) was beyond the range tested, i.e. exceeded a TWA concentration of 2.0 mg/l. The NOEC for growth rate reduction was 0.24 mg/l based on TWA concentrations. As preference is given to the EC10 over a NOEC value (Guidance on the Application of the CLP Criteria, Version 4.0 (November 2013), section 4.1.3.1.1., footnote 88), the EC10 (0 -72 h) for growth rate reduction was calculated to be 1.3 mg/L based on TWA concentrations.
