- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The substance was filled into boiling point tube about 5 to 10 mm. A capillary tube was fused at the one end was immersed in the sample. The open end of the capillary tube was below the level of sample. The boiling point tube was kept in the specified compartment of the boiling point apparatus and was heated gradually. At first, the heating of the compartment was adjusted to a temperature rise of 3°C/min. At about 10°C below the expected boiling temperature, the heating was reduced so that the temperature rise was less than 1 °C/min. Upon reaching the boiling point of the substance, a string of bubbles emerge rapidly from the lower end of the capillary tube. The point at which the bubbles arise from the capillary tube was considered as boiling point of the substance.
The substance in the boiling point tubes was observed carefully and the temperature at which the bubbles arise from the capillary tube was paused by switching off the heater. The displayed reading was recorded.
The experiment was carried out in three replications. The results were recorded in the raw data and presented in the report. While conducting the experiment the atmospheric pressure was recorded using barometer (TFA dostmann). - GLP compliance:
