Nominal / measured:

Conc. based on:

Basis for effect:
mortality (fish)
Remarks:
(= 96h LC0)
Remarks on result:
other: One animal was dead at 1.8 g/l, but because mortality (in the control) is allowed according to OECD 203, this concentration is recorded as the 96h NOEC, with regard to mortality as criterion.
Duration:
96 h
Dose descriptor:
LC100
Effect conc.:
5.6 g/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:

Basis for effect:
mortality (fish)
Duration:
96 h
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Effect conc.:
2.8 g/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mortality (fish)
Remarks on result:
other: 95% confidence interval: 2.3 - 3.3 g/l
Details on results:
It is likely that the results of the test are seriously affected by the high pH value.

- Behavioural abnormalities: At concentrations of 1.8 g/l and 3.2 g/l L-arginine slow swimming fishes, fishes with disturbed equilibrium, fishes swimming near the surface of the test vessel, fishes with a darker colour and fishes making nervous movements were observed.
- Observations on body length and weight: none
- Other biological observations: none
- Mortality of control: no
- Other adverse effects control: no
- Abnormal responses: no
- Any observations (e.g. precipitation) that might cause a difference between measured and nominal values: The test substance appeared to be completely dissolved at all concentrations tested at the beginning of the test (visually assesed). After 24 h undissolved material was observed on the bottom of the vessel at all concentrations tested; the amount of undissolved material increased with the concentration.
- Effect concentrations exceeding solubility of substance in test medium: see above

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
