Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The test item fatty acids, tall-oil, epoxidized, 2-ethylhexylesters (ETP) was investigated for their ready biodegradability in a manometric respirometry test over 28 days according to EU Commission Directive 92/69 EEC, C.4-D (1992) and OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 301 F (1992).

The percent biodegradation of the test item was calculated based on the chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 2.72 mg O2/mg test item. The biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of ETP in the test media significantly increased from Day 1 until test-termination after 28 days. A continuous degradation of the test item was determined over the whole test period. At the end of the 28-day test period, the mean biodegradation of ETP amounted to 70%. Thus, ETP was found to be readily biodegradable under the conditions of the test within 28 days.

Read across from ETP. Both substances are of similar structure, being long-chain esters with 2-ethyl hexanol. See section 13 for an attached document with a read across justification.

The substance Fatty acids, C12 -20 and C12 -20 -unsatd., 2 -ethylhexyl esters is therefore considered to be readily biodegradable.
