Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2017
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Potassium neodecanoate was weighed (50, 55, 60, 65, 70 g) into a 250 mL Erlenmeyer Flasks filled with 100 mL of demineralised water. With an electric stirrer, the sample was mixed for 24 hours at 20 °C and then observed after coming to rest for clarity and substance precipitation.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
flask method
Water solubility:
>= 550 g/L
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: no pH determined

Results

Water (mL) Sample (g) Observation
100 50 Clear solution with no precipitation
100 55 Clear solution with no precipitation
100 60 Slightly cloudy solution and increased viscosity
100 65 Viscous gel
100 70 High viscous gel or putty

Potassium neodecanoate is soluble in water up to at least 550 g/L. Upwards to 600 g/L the substance begins to form an aqueous gel.

Conclusions:
Potassium neodecanoate has a water solubility of ≥ 550 g/L.

Description of key information

Potassium neodecanoate is soluble in water up to at least 550 g/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
550 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C
