PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
sodium 4-hydroxybenzenesulphonate
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: bulk
Reference substance:
sodium 4-hydroxybenzenesulphonate
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Not persistent:

Sodium 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate was found to be readily biodegradable in a study performed according to OECD Guideline No. 301B. Hence, it can be considered to be not persistent and not very persistent (not P and not vP).

Not bioaccumulative:

The partition coefficient for sodium 4 -hydroxybenzenesulfonate was determined to be (log Pow) -2.79. Hence, it can be considered to be not bioaccumulative and not very bioaccumulative (not B and not vB).

Not Toxic:

Aquatic toxicity potential of substance sodium 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate was evaluated in studies conducted with fish, invertebrates and algae, with the LC50 >100 mg/L for all three species. Further, the substance is not classified for mutagenicity, toxicity to reproduction and chronic toxicity. Hence, the substance is considered to be not T.

Based on the above discussion, sodium 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate can be considered not PBT nor vPvB.
