Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
EYES: Wash immediately and abundantly with running water, with eyelids open, for at least 10 minutes; we recommend using a suitable portable or stationary eyewash station. SEE A DOCTOR if eye irritation is persistent.
SKIN: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and wash with abundant water and neutral soap. Seek medical advice if contact involves extensive areas of the body or if irritation is persistent. It is unlikely that the product will be absorbed through the skin.
INHALATION: Move the victim to a well-ventilated place; if breathing is laboured, administer oxygen or perform artificial respiration. Seek medical advice immediately.
INGESTION: Ingestion of the product causes irritation and corrosion of the intestinal tract. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Contact with the acids in the stomach produces hydrogen sulphide, an extremely toxic gas. The victim should be taken immediately to the nearest emergency room. It is okay to give water.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media: The product is non-flammable (but it is combustible). Use chemical powder and foam extinguishers. Dirt and sand may also be used for small fires. Water spray may also be used.
Unsuitable extinguishing media: Carbon dioxide
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
• If subjected to high temperatures, the product releases hydrogen sulphide, a toxic and flammable gas. The hydrogen sulphide can create explosive mixtures with air.
Advice for firefighters
• Containers not involved in the fire should be moved away.
• Cool containers not exposed to the fire with a jet of water.
• Collect the water used to put out the fire in order to prevent dispersion in soil or discharge into the sewerage system.
• Dispose of contaminated water and fire residue according to current regulations.
• EQUIPMENT: Always use an autonomous respiratory device and extinguishing equipment suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
• Avoid contact with skin, eyes and contaminated clothing.
• Before cleaning the contaminated area, put on gloves, mask with filter, safety goggles or eye protection visor and non-slip shoes. In the event of large spills, contain the leaks with dirt or sand.
• Small product leaks can be washed with water and surface-active agent.
• Eliminate all open flames and possible sources of ignition.
• Do not smoke.
Environmental precautions
• Notify the competent authorities if considerable quantities of product are discharged into a waterway, the sewerage system or have contaminated the soil or vegetation.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
• Quickly collect the product and put it into a clean container for reuse, if possible, or for elimination.
• Absorb any residues with dirt, dry sand or vermiculite.
• Following collection a light hydrogen peroxide solution (5% max.) may be used to eliminate sulphur residues.

Precautions for safe handling
• Use gloves, safety goggles and protective clothing to avoid contact with the product.
• See section 8 below also.
• Do not eat or drink while working.
• Do not smoke while working.
• Wash hands after using the product.
• Remove contaminated clothing and protection devices before entering areas designated for eating.
• Do not contaminate water with the product or its container.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
• Keep containers tightly closed.
• Protect from cold and sunlight in cool, properly ventilated rooms.
• Keep away from food and animal foodstuffs.
• Keep away from open flames, heat sources, acids and oxidising substances.
• Keep and dilute, if necessary, the product in the original containers.

Exposure controls
Respiratory protection: Properly ventilate the rooms where the product is stored and/or handled. Use respiratory protection (mask with filter) when spraying the product.
Hand protection: Always use protective gloves, especially for prolonged contact. We recommend 100% nitrile rubber gloves in conformity with standard EN374.
Eye protection: Use safety goggles or eye protection visor or protection combined with respiratory protection. It is advisable to equip the work area with an eyewash station. It is best not to wear contact lenses when applying the product.
Skin protection: Use clothing that protects the skin completely. Use safety shoes that are resistant to chemical agents.
Environmental exposure controls: The product is harmful to the aquatic environment. Avoid dispersion in soil, in surface waterways and in the sewerage system.
Stability and reactivity
Reactivity
• If exposed to high temperatures, it releases hydrogen sulphide, a toxic and easily flammable gas. In the event of combustion, it releases sulphur oxides, carbon monoxide and unburnt compounds.
Chemical stability
• The product is stable under normal use and storage conditions.
Possibility of hazardous reactions
• (see section 10.1). Reacts to contact with acids and oxidising substances (nitrates, nitrites, chlorates), giving off hydrogen sulphide.

Waste treatment methods
• Empty containers and product residues must be disposed of as special waste in conformity with the national requirements.
