Lowest available aquatic endpoints:


Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates: 2.4 mg/L (Daphnia pulex) (Am. Soc. Test. Mater. (1980) and U.S. EPA (1975); Smith et al., 1988).


Long-term toxicty to aquatic algae Desmodesmus subspicatus: 72 h-ERC10 = 5.3 mg/l (Directive 92/69/EEC, C.3; Hüls, 1994)

Additional information

There are aquatic ecotoxicological data from three trophic levels available (invertebrates, fish and alga). EC50 values for invertebrates range from 2.4 mg/L with Daphnia pulex (Smith et al., 1988) to 9.5 mg/L with Daphnia magna (Scholz, 1994). The marine brine shrimp revealed an EC50 = 78 mg/L in a 24 h static study. (Price et al., 1974). For fish the LC50(96h) was determined to be 3.2 mg/L in a 96h semi-static study with Brachydanio rerio according to Directive 92/96/ECC, C.1. (Scholz, 1995).


A 72h ErC50 of 11 mg/L was determined with the freshwater alga Desmodesmus subspicatus (Scholz, 1994) over a period of 72 h under static conditions in an OECD 201 study.


Long-term aquatic toxicity data are available for one trophic level. For the freshwater algae Desmodesmus subspicatus the 72 h-ERC10 was 5.3 mg/l.
