Skin sensitasation potential was assessed based on analogue approach using ethoxymethoxy diethylene glycol (EMDE) and 2 -methoxyethanol (2-ME) as source chemicals.
The underlying scientific rationales are based on the structural similarity and metabolic consideration.
- EMDE is structurally related to the target chemical, exhibiting same chemical functional groups (ethylene glycol chain, methoxy moiety as well as the structural feature to be metabolized to 2-Methoxyethanol and 2-Methoxyacetic acid).
- 2-ME is the metabolite of tetraglyme.
Considering that the source chemicals comprises the structurally related substance (EMDE) and the presumed metabolites (2 -ME), it can be assumed that the major events leading to skin sensitization are well covered. Neither EMDE nor 2 -ME exhibited significant sensitization potential. Likewise, tetraglyme is considered to be a non skin sensitizer.

There are no respiratory sensitization properties of the substance known in literature. Beyond this there is no hint of any sensitization property of the source chemicals of EMDE or 2 -ME for the analogue approach. Therefore, it is concluded that the subsance is not a respiratory sensitizer.
