Description of key information
Acute toxicity to fish
A study investigating the short-term toxicity study of Epoxypropyl neodecanoate, oligomeric reaction products with cyclohexane-1,2 -dicarboxylic anhydride and propylidenetrimethanol to fish, using the freshwater species Cyprinus carpio, was conducted according to the OECD Guideline No. 203 at a GLP accredited laboratory. The study met the acceptablity criteria presvribed by the study plan and was considered valid.
The 96h-LC50 was beyond the concentration range tested, i.e. exceeded the average exposure concentration of 8.0 ¿g/L (the limit of solubility of the test substance) and is therefore concluded to be >8.0 ¿g/L (Tobor-Kaplon, 2018).
Acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
A study investigating the short-term toxicity of Epoxypropyl neodecanoate, oligomeric reaction products with cyclohexane-1,2 -dicarboxylic anhydride and propylidenetrimethanol to the aquatic freshwater invertebrate, Daphnia magna, was conducted according to the OECD Guideline No. 202 at a GLP accredited laboratory. The study met the acceptability criteria prescribed by the study and was considered valid.
No immobilisation was observed in the controls and at the limit concentration throughout the exposure period, therefore the 48h-EC50 for D. magna was concluded to be >10 ¿g/L (Sileno, 2018a).
Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
A study investigating the toxicity of Epoxypropyl neodecanoate, oligomeric reaction products with cyclohexane-1,2 -dicarboxylic anhydride and propylidenetrimethanol to the freshwater algae species,Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, was conducted according to the OECD Guideline No. 201 at a GLP accredited laboratory. The study met the acceptability criteria prescribed by the study plan and was considered valid.
No significant inhibition for both growth rate and yield was observed at the limit concentration tested, therefore the EC50 values for growth rate (ErC50) and yield (EyC50) were both >1.2 µg /L and the NOEC values for growth rate and yield were both 1.2 µg/L (Sileno, 2018b).
Toxicity to microorganisms
The influence of Epoxypropyl neodecanoate, oligomeric reaction products with cyclohexane-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride and propylidenetrimethanol on the respiration rate of activated sludge was investigated after a contact time of 3 hours was investigated according to OECD Guideline 209. Results showed no statistically significant inhibition of the respiration rate of activated sludge at any of the tested loading rates. it is therefore concluded that Epoxypropyl neodecanoate, oligomeric reaction products with cyclohexane-1,2 -dicarboxylic anhydride and propylidenetrimethanol was not toxic to activated sludge bacteria at or below a loading rate of 1000 mg/L. A NOELR of 1000 mg/L and a ELR50 of >1000 mg/L were derived(Bachelor, 2017).
