Additional information

The main difficulty in any specific testing on charcoal is bioavailability of the insoluble material in in-vitro systems and confirming exposure to cells. The traces of organic carbon present in the form of non-combusted wood-products may influence the results of such testing, but since the chemistry of the organic components will vary from the type of wood and geographical source, performing new laboratory studies is not considered to be scientifically appropriate.
