Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Two available guideline studies investigated the acute toxicity of 2-ethyl-2-(((1-oxoisooctadecyl)oxy)methyl)-1,3-propanediyl bis (isooctadecanoate) (CAS 68541-50-4) to aquatic algae. The key study (GLP) was performed according to guideline ISO 8692 using Scenedesmus subspicatus as test organisms (Marshall, 1996). The test period was 72 hours and substance concentrations were measured at the start and the end of the exposure time. Based on the algal growth rate an EC50 >3.7 mg/L (measured) was determined.

In a second available study Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata were used as test organisms (Bouillon, 2010). The test was conducted as a limit test according to OECD guideline 201. The test solutions were prepared by using the water accommodated fraction (WAF) of the test substance. Based on the loading ratio of the test substance an EL50 > 0.12 g/L (nominal) was observed.

Therefore acute toxic effects on aquatic algae are not expected within the range of the water solubility of the substance (< 0.05 mg/L).
