Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Rhenium showed no signs of self -ignition or self-heating when held at 140 °C for 24 hours, when temperature increased from 140 to 400 °C the test item self-heated at 280 °C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
280 °C

Additional information

Autoflammability was measured in a GLP-compliant, guideline study (Harlan Laboratories 2010). Self Heating was assessed using a modified test method based on UN test N4 and EU test A16, which is considered to produce equally robust results as the standard method but uses less volume of test substance. Due to the limited availability and high cost of the test material, which may not always be manufactured on a regular basis, this modified method was used.
