Additional information
To determine the aquatic toxicity of Dichloro(phenyl)phosphine (CAS 644 -97 -3) studies on the test substance itself and on the main hydrolysis product are available. The short-term toxicity on aquatic invertebrates were investigated by an acute daphnia test (OECD 202) on Dichloro(phenyl)phosphine (CAS 644 -97 -3) (BASF SE, 50E0604/12E041, 2014). The EL/EC50 (48h) was determined to exceed 100 mg/L based on loading rate. Regarding the rapidly hydrolysis of the test substance (half-life < 1 min) the test solutions were stirred for about 1 hour to ensure that the test substance was completely hydrolyzed. Therefore, the test substance, which is a mixture of its hydrolysis products, is not considered to be acutely harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
For the endpoint aquatic fish the main hydrolysis product phneylphosphinic acid (CAS 1779 -48 -2) was tested in a guideline study conducted by japanese authorities. The LC50 (48h) was determined to exceed 1000 mg/L (MITI 1992). Therefore, the test substance is not considered to be acutely harmful to fish.
For testing the toxicity to microorganisms, guideline study according to OECD 209 were conducted on dichloro(phenyl)phosphine, reveals a EC20 values of 570mg/L(BASF AG 93/0156/08/1, 1993). Thus, the inhibition of the degraddation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduched in appoporate low concentratons.
In conclusion the test substance is not considered to be acutely harmful to aquatic life.
