Description of key information

According to Commission Directive 96/12/EC the toxicity (mortality and sublethal effects) of the active substance to selected arthropod species must be investigated. No studies are supplied for this point. Methyl bromide is intended for use as a space and pre-planting soil fumigant. In cases where it is applied to the soil there will be no vegetation present when it is applied. It can therefore be assumed that foliage dwelling arthropods will not be affected. However, it is likely that application of methyl bromide will have a negative effect on populations of ground dwelling arthropods. Repeated exposure is not expected as methyl bromide will only be applied once per year. This should significantly reduce the effect that methyl bromide will have on arthropod populations in the soil. Therefore full re-population of treated areas should occur.
