Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: If breathing is laboured, give oxygen and consult a
physician.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water for at least 15 minutes
(timed).
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with plenty of soap and water.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Consult a physician.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Carbon dioxide, dry powder and foam.

Product arising from burning: Combustion products may contain carbon, nitrogen and sulphur
oxides and silica smoke.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Protective clothing and a self-contained breathing apparatus
should be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear protective clothing (see 2.3.1). Ventilation should be
provided during operations.

Remove all sources of ignition.

Cover spill with inert absorbant material and shovel into a
plastic drum for disposal.

For large spills, dike with an inert material. Wear
air-supplied respiratory protective equipment while cleaning
up.

Dispose of waste by incineration or at a landfill site.

Handling and storage

Handling: Local exhaust ventilation should be provided in handling
areas. Where ventilation is poor, or in confined spaces, an
organic cartridge type respirator conforming to BS 2091
should be worn. Persons handling the substance should wear
solvent-resistant gloves and safety glasses.

Storage: Store in lined open-top steel drums below 60 deg C. Protect
from moisture.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None reported.

Chemical reaction with water: Slow hydrolysis to give methanol and a highly viscous and
amorphous mass occurs.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for reuse is not possible due to hydrolysis in
atmospheric moisture.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable, no known hazardous properties.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal at a controlled landfill site for chemical waste is
possible.

Discharge to surface waters is not recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Disposal by incineration at an approved facility equipped
with waste gas treatment to remove nitrogen and sulphur
oxides is recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Must not be discharged to surface waters or wastewater
treatment plants.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance itself will not enter the public domain.
