This read-across hypothesis corresponds to scenario 2 of the Read-Across Assessment Framework (RAAF), ECHA, March 2017 - different compounds have qualitatively similar properties - of the read-across assessment framework i.e. properties of the target substance are predicted to be quantitatively equal to those of the source substance. Namely, the source substance BADGE predicts the toxicological and ecotoxicological properties of the target substance Soya/Linseed Oil Fatty Acid-BADGE reaction product.

No experimental data are available for the target substance Soya/Linseed Oil Fatty Acid-BADGE. However, a reliable Daphnia reproduction study is available for the source substance BADGE. A justification for read-across is attached to iuclid section 13.
A long term test with Daphnia magna similar to OECD TG 211 was conducted with BADGE. This test was deemed reliable and useful for risk assessment (Klimish score = 2). In this test, D. magna were exposed to five concentrations of the test item ranging from 0.03 - 3 mg/L and control dilution water for 21 days in a static renewal test design. Survival, growth, and reproduction rate were all significantly reduced at 1 mg/L, but were all unaffected at 0.3 mg/L.
