First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:

First Aider: Pay attention to self-protection!

In case of accident or unwellness, seek medical advice immediately (show directions for use or safety data sheet if possible).

In case of inhalation:

Move affected person into fresh air, keep calm and warm in a position that makes breathing easier.

In case of skin (or hair) contact:

Remove contaminated clothing immediately and dispose off safely.

Wash the skin immediately with plenty of water and soap.

If skin irritation persists, seek medical advice.

In case of eye contact:

Flush immediately with plenty of flowing water for 10-15 minutes holding eyelids apart and consult an ophthalmologist.

Protect uninjured eye.

Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.

In case of ingestion:

Immediately rinse the oral mucosa with water and give plenty of water in small sips to drink. Seek medical advice immediately.

Do not induce vomiting. If a person vomits when lying on his back, place him in the recovery position.

If there is a risk of loss of consciousness, place and transport affected person in the recovery position.

No administration by mouth in cases of unconsciousness or cramps.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Suitable extinguishing media:

Water mist, dry extinguishing powder, carbon dioxide (CO2), foam

Unsuitable extinguishing media:       Full water jet.

Special hazards arising from the substance:

In case of fire may be liberated: carbon monoxide (CO), toxic pyrolysis products.

Advice for fire-fighters:

Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing.

Prevent release of product and contaminated fire extinguishing water into the environment.

Dispose of fire debris and contaminated extinguishing water in accordance with official regulations.

Use water spray jet to protect personnel and to cool endangered containers.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

for non-emergency personnel:

Provide adequate ventilation.

Wear respiratory protection in case of inadequate ventilation.

Stay upwind / keep distance from source.

Keep unauthorised personnel away.

Observe emergency plans.

Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothes. Avoid inhalation.

Wear protective gloves/protective clothing and eye/face protection.

Remove all sources of ignition, avoid heat and sparks.

for emergency responders:

In case of large amounts wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing.

No further precautions additionally to the emergency procedures for non-emergency personnel.

Environmental precautions:

Do not allow to enter into drains, surface water/ground-water or soil/ subsoil.

Limiting the runoff with earth or sand.

In the event of penetration into the water system, the soil or the drains, the responsible authorities must be notified.

Treat the recovered material as prescribed in the section on waste disposal.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

General:

Prevent spread over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers).

Cover drains.

Use only anti-static (spark-free) tools and explosion-proof devices.

In case of large amounts:

Stop leak if safe to do so. Pump off product. Collect spillage.

For residues:

Soak up inert absorbent and dispose as waste requiring special attention

Suitable material for taking up:       Absorb with liquid-binding material (sand, silica gel, universal binder)

Ventilate affected area.

Clean floors and contaminated objects with: Plenty of water

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

The product should be handled with the care usual when dealing with chemicals.

Use only in well-ventilated areas or work with adequate exhaustion.

Vent waste air to atmosphere only through suitable separators.

Avoid the development of vapours / aerosols, do not leave containers open.

It is recommended to design all work processes always so that the following is excluded:

Inhalation, skin contact, eye contact. Have breathing protection ready.

Use personal protective equipment (see section 8.2.2).

Wash off any product that gets on the skin immediately, do not allow to dry out.

Remove contaminated, saturated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

Do not wear arm or hand jewelry, do not eat, drink, smoke or sniff while working.

Thoroughly clean hands and other contaminated parts of the body after work and before breaks.

Use skin care products after cleansing the skin (moisturizing cream).

Keep street and work clothes separately.

Only use the material in places where open light, fire and other flammable sources can be kept away. Take precautionary measures against static discharges.

Use and open container with care.

Handle empty containers with care.

Do not allow to enter into drains

Only properly trained personnel should handle this substance.

This substance is handled under strictly controlled conditions in accordance with Article 18 (4) of REACH regulation.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Keep only in the original container in a cool, well-ventilated, dry place. Store in a closed container.

Protect from heat, sources of ignition and direct sunlight.

Make sure spills can be contained, e.g. in sump pallets or kerbed areas.

Floors should be impervious, resistant to liquids and easy to clean.

Keep locked up or in such a way that only authorized persons have access.

Keep away from foodstuffs, beverages and feed.

The requirements of TRGS 510 must be observed for storage.

The product is classified in LGK 10 (combustible liquids).

Exposure controls / personal protection

Appropriate engineering controls:

See section 7.1 of the safety data sheet.

Provide eye and safety shower and label its location conspicuously.

Personal protective equipment:

General protective and hygiene measures:

Handle according to the rules of good occupational hygiene and safety.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not inhale gases / vapours / aerosols.

Do not eat, drink, sniff or smoke when using.

Wash hands and / or face before breaks and at the end of work.

Take off dirty, soaked clothes immediately. Separate storage of protective clothing.

Keep away from drinks, food and feed.

Eye / face protection:

Suitable eye protection: Eye glasses with side protection (according to EN 166).

Skin protection:

-       Hand protection:

Suitable gloves according to EN 374):

Suitable material: PVC, Neoprene, Natural rubber, Butyl rubber

Supplementary note:

The specifications are based on literature and information of glove manufacturer or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the determined permeation time.

For special purposes, it is recommended to check the resistance to chemicals of the protective gloves mentioned above together with the supplier of these gloves.

-       Other: Suitable protective clothing:

In normal cases a special body protection is not required.

An impermeable blanket and safety boots could be necessary according to the work.

Respiratory protection:

Respiratory protection necessary if insufficient ventilation.

Self-contained respirator (DIN EN 133) or container device with compressed air (DIN EN 137).

Filtering device (full mask or mouthpiece) with filter A (EN 14387).

Environmental exposure controls:

Do not allow to enter into drains/surface water/ground-water.

Do not allow to enter into soil/subsoil.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity:

No hazardous reaction if stored and handled as prescribed.

Chemical stability:

Stabil if stored and handled as prescribed.

Possibility of hazardous reactions:

No hazardous reaction if stored and handled as prescribed.

Conditions to avoid:

heat

Incompatible materials:

Strong oxidiser, strong acids

Hazardous decomposition products:

No hazardous decomposition products if stored and handled as prescribed.

In case of thermal decomposition: Carbon monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO2)
