Description of key information

The following tests were performed to estimate the toxicity of Maltitol to aquatic organisms :

- acute toxicity to fish, OECD 203, GLP : 96h-LC0 ≥ 1050 mg/L (active ingredient, measured geometric mean),

- acute toxicity to Daphnia magna , OECD 202, GLP : 48h-LC0 ≥ 1020 mg/L (active ingredient, measured geometric mean),

- and toxicity to green algae , OECD 201, GLP : 72h-NOEC (growth rate and biomass) ≥ 1040 mg/L (active ingredient, measured initial concentration).

The maltitol shows no adverse effect to fish, daphnia and algae with LC0/NOEC ≥ 1020 mg/L (active ingredient measured concentration)

Additional information

The maltitol shows no adverse effect to fish, daphnia and algae when tested at high concentrations (≥ 1020 mg/L of active ingredient measured concentration). Consequently it is not classified for the environment according to CLP criteria.
