Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The photochemical half-life of degradation of 2,3-bis((2-mercaptoethyl)thio)-1-propanethiol in air was estimated to be 0.03 days. There is no
potential for volatilisation and long range transport in the atmosphere.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in air:
0.03 d
Degradation rate constant with OH radicals:
1.8 cm³ molecule-1 s-1

Additional information

Following the Atkinson approach, the photochemical half-life of DMPT in air was estimated by calculation with the software Atmospheric Oxidation Program (AOPWIN, version 1.92). For a given concentration of hydroxyl radicals (1.5*106OH-radicals/cm3) and an overall rate constant of 1.7755*10-10 for the various photolytic transformation processes induced by OH-radicals the photolytic half-life of the substance in the atmosphere is estimated to 0.03 days. In view of its low vapour pressure and by taking into account the rapid estimated elimination observed in this simulation, there is no potential for volatilisation and long range transport in the atmosphere.
