Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Based on the studies available in the present weight of evidence analysis it is concluded that the short-term toxicity and the activated sludge respiration inhibition of the compound “Stearic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol”is
· Short-term toxicity to fish: 96hr-LC50= 12 mg/L
· Short-term toxicity to invertebrates: 48hr-EC50=1.8 mg/L
· Short-term toxicity to algae: 72hr-EC50=19 mg/L; 72hr-NOEC= 12.5 mg/L.
· Activated sludge respiration inhibition: 3hr-NOEC=1000 mg/L; 3hr-IC50>1000 mg/L.
Regarding aquatic long-term toxocity to fish and invertebrates:
As a conservative approach, the conclusions in this weight-of-evidence approach are based on the results obtained during the studies leading to the highest toxicity, i.e., the lowest EC10/NOEC values respectively, leading to the following value:
- Long-term toxicity to fish: NOEC=0.14 mg/L
- Long-term toxicity to invertebrates: 21-d NOEC (Daphnia magna): 0.03 mg/L
It is to be noted that the long-term effect concentrations are above the estimated water solubility of 0.0062 mg/L.
It is to be noted that all short-term and long-term effect concentrations are above the estimated water solubility of 0.0062 mg/L at 25°C
Additional information
Data on this endpoint for short-term toxicity is not available for “Stearic acid, monoester with propane-1,2-diol”. The environmental toxicity of this UVCB substance is therefore assessed in the present weight of evidence analysis based on existing data on:
- the group of fatty acid esters (C10-C18),
- the relevant hydrolysis products including the group of fatty acids and propane-diol,
- QSAR predictions for main components (monoesters and diesters of propane-diols).
Hereby, a solid data set is available for deriving a conclusion on the environmental toxicity of the UVCB-substance.
Likewise for long-term toxicity on fish and invertebrates were no endpoints available and it is instead assessed by weight of evidence analysis based on existing data on:
- the group of fatty acid esters (C10-C18),
- the relevant hydrolysis products including the group of fatty acids and propane-diol,
- Read-across to similar substances
