Description of key information

Calcium is the fifth most abundant of all elements, and calcium-bearing minerals a major constituent of soils, i.e. the habitat of terrestrial organisms. Calcium concentrations in European soils are generally well above 1000 mg Ca/kg, which is the limit dose for terrestrial toxicity testing. Similar to the lack of a toxic potential to freshwater organisms, calcium as an essential element is therefore expected to also have a low potential for toxicity to soil organisms.
