Description of key information
The MCHAmix is acutely harmful to aquatic organisms.
Additional information
There are no experimental data on the toxicity of the reaction product of 2,4-Dinitrotoluene and 2.6-Dinitrotoluene and hydrogen, deaminated (MCHAmix, EC 943-517-5) to aquatic organisms. Therefore, a read-across approach to structurally similar substances was applied to assess the aquatic toxicity of MCHAmix (EC 943-517-5). The following source substances were used: 2-Methylcyclohexylamine (CAS 7003-32-9; a representative constituent of MCHAmix) and 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1).
The studies with 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1) were performed without analytical monitoring, but the substance is considered to be stable in water due to its high water solubility, its moderate vapor pressure and its low Henry's Law Constant.
Acute toxicity to fish
MCHAmix (EC 943-517-5) is acutely harmful to fish.
Key study: Read-across to 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1): DIN 38412, part 15: Leuciscus idus, static, not pH-adjusted, no analytical verification of test concentrations: 96-h LC50 = 31.8 mg/L (nom.; BASF AG, 1987, Rep. no.: 10F0267/875102).
Supp. study: Read-across to 2-Methylcyclohexylamine (CAS 7003-32-9): OECD 203: Danio rerio, static, not pH-adjusted, analytical verification of test concentrations: 96-h LC50 = 35.1 mg/L (meas.; BASF AG, 1987, rep. no.: 17F0062/965017).
Acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
MCHAmix (EC 943-517-5) is acutely harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
Key study: Read across to 2-Methylcyclohexylamine (CAS 7003-32-9): OECD 202: Daphnia magna, static, analytical verification of test concentrations, not-pH adjusted: 48-h EC50 = 16.5 mg/L (meas.)
Supp. study: Read-across to 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1): OECD 202: Daphnia magna, static, no analytical verification of test concentrations, not-pH adjusted: 48-h EC50 = 36.3 mg/L (nom.)
Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
MCHAmix (EC 943-517-5) is acutely harmful to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria.
Key study: Read-across to 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1): DIN 38412, part 9: Desmodesmus subspicatus, no analytical monitoring, not pH-adjusted: 72-h ErC50 = 47.5 mg/L (nom.) and 72-h ErC10 = 24.5 mg/L (nominal; BASF AG, 1987, rep.no.: 2/0306/87).
Toxicity to aquatic microorganisms
The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the target substance MCHAmix (EC 943-517-5) is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
Key study: Read-across to 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1): DIN 38412, part 8: Pseudomonas putida, no analytical monitoring, not pH-adjusted: 17-h ErC10 = 138 mg/L, 17-h EC50 = 188 mg/L (nom.; BASF AG, 1987, Rep.no.: 9/00306/87)
Supp. study: Read-across to 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine (CAS 6850-63-1): ISO 8192: industrial activated sludge, no analytical monitoring, not pH-adjusted: 30-min EC20 > 659 mg/L (nom., BASF AG, 1987, Rep.no.: 01.269/87).
