Description of key information

3 acute aquatic toxicity studies are available on 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctanesulphonic acid: a 96h acute toxicity study on fish (OECD 203), a 48h immobility study on water flea (OECD 202) and a growth inhibition study on a green alga (OECD 201). In all three studies (see below), no adverse effects were observed at the highest dose tested, which was always greater than 100 mg/L. Nonetheless, all these studies were performed on an aqueous solution containing 70% water and 30% active ingredient. As a result, the highest concentrations tested were below 50 mg/L when corrected for the level of active ingredient. Therefore, to support the assertion that 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctanesulphonic acid does not cause adverse effects on algae, aquatic invertebrates and fish up to concentrations of 100 mg/L, studies on the corresponding potassium salt of 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctanesulphonic acid were included. On this potassium salt, 3 acute aquatic studies were available (also on algae, aquatic invertebrates and fish) as well as an OECD 210, 90 day early life-stage study on rainbow trout.
