Toxicity to fish

The acute toxicity of Musk Ketone was assessed with acute fish toxicity test on Poecilia reticulata, over an exposure period of 96 hours in a static system. Under the conditions, the 24, 48, 72, 96h LC50 values were all > 0.385 mg/L(measured initial concentration). The 96h LC100 value was > 0.385 mg/L (measured initial concentration). The 96h LC0 values were 0.385 mg/L (measured initial concentration).

Toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Acute toxicity of Musk Ketone on Daphnia magna was accessed in an acute immobilisation test, over an exposure period of 48 hours in a static test system. Under the conditions of this Daphnia magna acute immobilisation study, the observed 24, 48h EC50 values were both > 0.432 mg/L (measured initial concentration). The 48h EC100 value was > 0.432 mg/L (measured initial concentration). The 48h LC0 values were 0.432 mg/L (measured initial concentration). Additional the acute toxicity of Musk Ketone was also tested with Daphnia magna (Schramm et al, 1996). There was no toxic effect on daphnia at the highest concentration of the substance. The 48 hour EC50 was > 0.46 mg/L.

Toxicity to algae

The effect of test item was assessed on algal growth using the unicellular green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, over an expoure period of 72 hours. Based on the effects of growth rate, the NOEC and EC50 values were 88 and 244 μg/L, respectively.

Toxicity to micro-organisms

The effect of Musk Ketone on the respiration rate of activated sludge microorganis was investigated in this study. Based on the result, the exact value of EC50 could not be calculated, the 3-hour EC50 value given in the form of a range: 3 hour EC50 > 1000 mg/L.
