Description of key information
Appearance / physical state / colour:
The appearance of Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) was observed to be a viscous liquid organic compound.
Melting point/ Freezing point:
The freezing point of Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is determined to be 25.7- 36.8 °C.
Boiling point:
The boiling point of Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is determined to be 172- 206 °C.
Density:
The density of Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is determined to be 1.06 g/cm3.
Particle size distribution (Granulometry):
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REAcH regulation this end point was considered for waiver since the Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is a liquid and is expected to be marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.
Vapour pressure:
The vapour pressure of Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is determined to be 0.000014 hPa at 25 °C.
Partition coefficient:
According to the name of test chemical Alcohols C8-18, ethoxylated (1 - 2.5 moles ethoxylated) (CAS no. 157707-43-2) it contains different carbon chain length and ethoxylation degree. Partition coefficent log Pow of test chemical can be in range of 2.97 - 8.37 dimensionless as the carbon chain length increases partition coeffcient is also increases.
Water solubility:
The water solubility of Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is determined to be 75 mg/L at 25 °C.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is used as a household detergents, instilulional and industrial cleaners, cosmetics, agriculture, and in textile, paper, oil and other process industries. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
The flash point of Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is determined to be 76 °C.
Autoflammability:
Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated acid (CAS no. 157707-43-2) was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.
Oxidising properties:
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidizing properties and hence the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
