Title:
(2Z)-2-Fluor-3-(morpholin-4-yl)acrylaldehyd (FMA): Determination of the Melting Point / Melting Range
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the melting point or melting range of (2Z)-2-Fluor-3-(morpholin-4-yl)acrylaldehyd (FMA) by the capillary method using an electronic controlled heating system.
Guidelines/Recommendations:
This study was based on the procedures indicated by the following internationally accepted methods:
-Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 laying down test methods pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) (originally published as Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, corrigendum according to Official Journal of the European Union (EN) dated June 3, 2008, L 143/55), Annex V, Part A, A.1.: “Melting /Freezing Temperature”, Official Journal of the European Union, L 142, Volume 51, 31 May 2008
-Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, Guideline No.: 102, “Melting Point/Melting Range”, adopted July 27, 1995
-Product Properties Test Guideline of the United States Environment Protection Agency (EPA), OPPTS 830.7200 Melting Point / Melting Range, March 1998
Results:
The determination of the melting point was performed by visual judgement using the capillary method. In the preliminary tests the test item starts melting at 97 °C. The test item showed all five stages of melting. The melting started at 101.3 °C (stage A). At 108.4 °C the last stage E of melting could be visual observed. At the end of the test the test item was liquid and red.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the test item (2Z)-2-Fluor-3-(morpholin-4-yl)acrylaldehyd (FMA) melted in the range of 101.3 °C to 108.4 °C (374.4 K to 381.6 K). This study is classified acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for melting point studies.
