Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance/physical state/colour:.
In an experiment conducted by SSS (Europe) AB,2016,on the basis of physical observation, the chemical 4-aminonapthalene-1,8-dicarboximide was observed to be yellow colored powder in appearance .
Other supporting data also suggests that the chemical 4-aminonapthalene-1,8-dicarboximide is orange colored powder in appearance.
Melting point:
The melting point determination of4-aminonapthalene-1,8-dicarboximide (CAS No. 1742-95-6 )was done following OECD Guideline 102 and according to the metal block capillary method. The test was conducted in replicates and mean decomposition point was found to be 359.5 °C at 969.1hPa
Boiling point
According to Column II of Annex VII, the boiling point study does not need to be conducted for solids which either melt above 300 °C or decompose before boiling.
The substance Trisodium4-aminonapthalene-1,8-dicarboximide(CAS No.1742-95-6) is a solid at room temperature and it is reported to decompose at a temperature of 359.5 °C.Hence, it is not feasible to determine boiling point and the endpoint was considered for waiver.
.
Density
The mean density of test item4-aminonapthalene-1,8-dicarboximide (CAS No. 1742-95-6)was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to theOECD guideline 109 and according to the method adapted from ASTM D 854-02using glass pyknometer. The mean density of the test item was found to be 2.655 g/cm3at 20oC and 968.2 hPa.
Particle size distribution (Granulometry)
The particle size distribution of test item4-aminonapthalene-1,8-dicarboximide (CAS No. 1742-95-6 )was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 75 micron.
Vapour pressure
Data from various modelling databases suggest that the estimated vapour pressure of 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide was 1.84E-011 mm Hg = 2.46E-009 Pa at 25deg C
It is reported as0.000000001 Pa for the chemical safety assessment due to the limitation in the field.
Partition coefficient
Data from various modelling databases suggest that the estimated logPow of 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide was 1.08.
Based on this value,4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide can be considered to be hydrophillic in nature.
Water solubility
The estimated water solubility of 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide at 25 deg C was 354 mg/L. Based on the results, it can be concluded that 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide is moderately soluble in water.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, this testing needs to be carried out only if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide is used as a hair dye . For this use, surface activity is not a desired property and hence this end point is considered for waiver.
Flash point:
The flash point determination of4-aminonapthalene-1,8-dicarboximide (CAS No. 1742-95-6 )was done following closed cup method using Pensky-Martens flash point apparatus. The test was conducted in replicates and mean flash point was found to be242.33 °C at 969.7 hPa.
Auto flammability
4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide; 6-amino-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide; 6-amino-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione is not auto-flammable.
Flammability
The NFPA rating for the chemical 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide (CAS No.1742-95-6) for flammability is 0, indicating that the chemical is highly unlikely to be flammable under normal conditions of temperature and pressure. Thus, this end point was considered for waiver. The chemical is considered as "Non Flammable" for the purpose of chemical safety assessment
Explosiveness
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study is scientifically unjustified since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of the chemical 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide (CAS No.1742-95-6). Thus, the chemical is not likely to be explosive.
Oxidising properties
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide (CAS No.1742-95-6) is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials,on the basis of the chemical structure. It is an organic substance containing oxygen but no halogen atoms. However, these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. Thus, the chemical is unlikely to exhibit oxidising properties and this study was therefore considered for waiver.
pH:
The pH determination of test item4-aminonapthalene-1,8-dicarboximide (CAS No. 1742-95-6 )was done following OECD guideline 122. Mean pH of 1% w/vdispersionwas measured with the help of pH meter and it was observed to be 6.07 at 27°C.
Viscosity:
In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.17, this study cannot be conducted on solid materials or gases. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance, viscosity measurement is only relevant to liquids. The chemical 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalimide(CAS No.1742-95-6)is an orange colored powder.Hence this study can be considered for waiver.
