Classification

The test item MEXORYL SBU is an organic compound which contains oxygen. Therefore the second criterion of the Orange Book has to be applied. MEXORYL SBU contains oxygen that is chemically bonded only to carbon. Therefore, the classification procedure using experimental testing need not be applied.

Additionally, it can be stated that the oxygen balance of MEXORYL SBU is negative as calculated based on the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. In principle this means, that

there is a surplus of carbon atoms for a complete reaction according to the following reaction scheme:

                           CxHyOz + [x + (y/4) – (z/2)] · O2 → x · CO2 + (y/2) · H2O

where CxHyOzis the test item.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
other: no oxidising properties
Remarks:
Migrated informationBased on the chemical structure
Conclusions:
Based on the chemical structure the result for the oxidising properties has been predicted negative.
Executive summary:
Applying the internationally recognized UN Recommendation criteria, MEXORYL SBU is found to be non-oxidizing and therefore is not to be tested experimentally for the classification under division 5.1 as oxidizing substances. Thus it can be concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that MEXORYL SBU is not capable of causing fire or enhancing the risk of fire when in contact with combustible material.
