Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
January the 20th, 2014
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EPA OPPTS 830.6315 (Flammability)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no further investigation was performed.

The test item is considered not highly flammable.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Remarks:
and according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008
Conclusions:
The substance should not be considered as highly flammable and no further testing its required.
Executive summary:

The test substance has been assayed according to the EU Method A.10. It is formed into an unbroken strip or powder train about 250 mm long and a preliminary screening test is performed to determine if, on ignition by a gas flame, propagation by burning with flame or smouldering occurs.

In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited. Based on the results of the preliminary test, no further investigation was performed.

The test item is considered not highly flammable.

Conclusion

The substance should not be considered as highly flammable and no further testing its required.

Additional information

EU method A.10

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, 2.7 section, flammable solids, powdered, granular or pasty substances or mixtures shall be classified as readily combustible solids when the time of burning of one or more of the test runs, performed in accordance with the test method described in Part III, sub-section 33.2.1, of the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, is less than 45 seconds or the rate of burning is more than 2.2 mm/s.

In the flammability test performed, Yellow LF 6881 did not propagate burning of a 200 mm length of the strip in less than four minutes, therefore the substance resulted non flammable.

In conclusion, the Yellow LF 6881 does not meet the criteria to be classified as flammable, according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
