Description of key information
The acute toxicity of the test item to fish(zebrafish) was determined according to OECD-Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 203(1992).A static limit test with a saturated solution was conducted. The preparation method has been chosen with regard to the test itemproperties and in accordance with the relevant OECD guidance document (2000).
The saturated solution of the test item didn´t show any signs of toxicity nor lethality at all observation time points up to 96 hours. Therefore, the NOEC and LC0were laid down as >= 100 mg/lL (based on the nominal concentration) and LC100was laid down as > 100 mg/L (based on the nominal concentration)
The toxicity of the test item (Pigment Violet 23) to the unicellular freshwater green alga Desmodesmus subspicatus was determined according to the principles of OECD-Guideline 201. A limit test with a saturated solution was carried out. In this study the test item (Pigment Violet 23) did not cause any inhibiting effects to Desmodesmus subspicatus after 72 h when tested with a saturated solution.
In the acute immobilisation test with Daphnia magna (STRAUS) the effect of the saturated solution (nominally 100 mg/L) of the test item (Pigment Violet 23) was determined according to OECD 202 (1999, Draft) and Directive 92/69/EC Method C.2 (1992). The limit test was conducted under static conditions over 48 h.
At the saturated solution of the test item (Pigment Violet 23) no biologically significant effect was determined.
The Daphnia magna Reproduction Test (Semi-Static, 21 d) of the test item (Pigment Violet 23) was conducted as a limit test with a supersaturated solution of the test item with the nominal loading of 2.50 mg/Laccording to OECD 211 (1998).The test methodwas semi-static. The test solutions were renewed 3 times per week. Aim of the Daphnia Reproduction Test over 21 days was to assess effects on the reproduction capacity and other test item-related effects on parameters such as occurrence of aborted eggs and stillborn juveniles, time of production of first brood, adult mortality, intrinsic rate of natural increase, dry body weight and length of the parent animals.
At the supersaturated solution of the test item (Pigment Violet 23) with a nominal loading of 2.50 mg/L no significant effects were determined. The No Observed Effect Loading Level (NOEL) and the Lowest Observed Effect Loading Level (LOEL) were assessed at: NOEL: 2.50 mg/L LOEL: > 2.50 mg/L
A Respiration Inhibition Test with activated sludge according to OECD Guideline No. 209 was performed with the test item. The test was performed under static conditions with the nominal limit concentration of 1000 mg/L. The test item is not toxic at concentrations ≤ 1000 mg/L to activated sludge of a municipal sewage treatment plant.
