Toxicity to birds:

The acute oral toxicity of cinchonidine to birds was determined. From the study published by Schafer 1983 it is shown, that the LD50, tested on Coturnix coturnix is > 100 mg/kg bw. In the study, published by Schafer 1982 the reproduction toxicity of cinchonidine was determined. There was no recognizable effect of cinchonine to the reproduction in male quail. Furthermore the shown LD50 of cinchonidine to quail after oral application is > 316 mg/kg bw.

Toxicity to terrestrial plants:

In the publications of Wink, 1992 and 1998 the inhibition of root and hypocotyl growth of Lepidium sativum and Lactuca sativa were determined for concentrations of 0.01% and 0.1% cinchonidine. Inhibitory effects were observed at a concentration of 0.01% (100 mg/kg soil) cinchonidine for Lactuca sativa and concentration of 0.1% (1 g/kg soil) cinchonidine for Lepidium sativum. These results indicate that cinchonidine has phytotoxic effects.
