Description of key information

As the atmospheric pressure of the measured boiling point was not in range of +/- 5 kPa to standard atmospheric pressure (101.325 kPa) the calculation to normal boiling point according to the equation of Sidney Young is not feasible. 
The boiling points of DIBUTYLMAGNESIUM TYP. 15% IN HEXANE were 56.2 °C, 56.4 °C and 55.8 °C under 90.04 kPa atmospheric pressure, and the arithmetic mean value of boiling point was 56.1°C

Additional information

Dibutylmagnesium is a metalating reagent. The magnesium atom has a polarization effect on neighbouring carbon atom resulting in a negative partial charge. This carbon-atom is highly reactive towards active hydrogen-compounds such as water, carbon acids and alcohols. Dibutylmagnesium is not stable and react vigorously with water liberating flammable butane-gas which might ignite spontaneously in atmospheres with inadequate inert gas protection. Therefore Dibutylmagnesium should always be handled and stored under exclusion of water/humidity securing an inert gas atmosphere. Thus, it is only marketed and stabilised in an organic solution under the protection of N2 or inert gas. Therefore, the boiling point is mainly influenced by the solvent.
