Study reports have been available for acute tests with fish, invertebrates, algae and micro-organism. Long-term aquatic toxicity tests were waived. The results are summarized as below:
The acute toxicity of FAT 41029/A to Zebrafish was performed according to OECD 203 and 92/69/EEC, L 383 A, C.1. under GLP compliance. At the start of the test, after 48 hours and 96 hours of exposure, measured concentrations of FAT 41029/A were below the detection limit of 0.1 mg/L. No mortality was recorded in the control during the 96 hour exposure period. At a test concentration of 100 mg/L (nominal) no mortality occurred until 72 hours of the test, one mortality though was observed at 96 hours of exposure. However, since mortality of this one fish occurred towards the very end of the test and since no mortality was observed in the preliminary study (which was carried out with test solutions prepared in the same way than for the definitive test), the effect is unlikely to be caused by the test item. No sublethal effects such as changes in swimming behaviour, respiratory function, pigmentation or loss of equilibrium were observed in the control or the treatment concentration of 100 mg/L (nominal) during the 96 hour test period. Thus, the 96 h LC50 of test item to Zebrafish was greater than saturation concentration ( > 100 mg/L nominal, <0.1 mg/L measured concentration).
The acute toxicity of FAT 41029/A to Daphnia magna was performed according to OECD 202, Part 1, and 92/69/EEC, Annex L 383 A, C.2. under GLP compliance. The nominal concentrations of FAT 41029/A were 4.3, 9.4, 21, 45 and 100 mg/L and a blank control without test item. The test samples were analysed for FAT 41029/A. During the test no immobilisation of the daphnia was observed in the test solutions up to the highest test concentration. Therefore, the 48 h EC50 of test item to Daphnia magna was greater than saturation concentration ( > 100 mg/l nominal, <0.1 mg/l actual concentration).
The influence of the test item FAT 41'029/A on the growth of the green algal speciesScenedesmus subspicatusCHODAT was investigated in a 72-hour static test according to the Commission Directive 92/69/EEC, C.3,1992, and the OECD Guideline No. 201,1984 under GLP compliance. The test item FAT 41'029/A had clearly no inhibitory effect on the growth (biomass and growth rate) ofScenedesmus subspicatusduring the exposure period of 72 hours at the mean measured concentration of 209 µg/l. Thus, the 72-hour EC50 for the mean algal biomass and the mean growth rate were clearly higher than 209 µg/l (nominal: a loading rate of 100 mg/l ).
The bacteria toxicity test of FAT 41029/A was performed according to OECD 209 and 87/302/EEC, L 133, Part C under GLP compliance. The test result showed the respiration rate of activated sludge microorganisms was not inhibited when exposed to the test article concentrations in the range from 25.6 to 1000 mg/l. Thus, the IC50 (3 h) of the test item FAT41029/A was greater than 1000 mg/l.
Due to the poor water solubility of test substance (7 μg/L), the exposure to the aquatic compartment is negligible. In addition, it is sufficient for the classification and PBT/vPvB assessment based on available information. Thus, no further long-term aquatic toxicity tests will be necessary.
