Description of key information
Data of this endpoint is only used in the exposure assessment of man via environment for the substance Creosote oil, acenaphthene fraction (wash oil).
The information specified for this endpoint is publicly available (see above). Data is also included in the quinoline ECHA submission dossier 2010 as key study but reference and basic data are somewhat different.
A measure half-life of 17.3 days for photodegradation at a latitude under summer sun light was adjusted taking into account the different latitude of wash oil processing sites and other seasons than just summer. The corrected value was assessed to be approx. 100 days.

Half-life of quinoline in water for photolytic degradation by summer sun light was determined to be 17.3 days (value calculated from the reported rate constant for quinoline photolysis in sunlight at 40° latitude (0.04 d-1) based on first-order kinetics).
Degradation half-life for quinoline is to be used in the estimation of environmental concentrations for wash oil processing sites in Europe (latitude ca. 38° to 56°). Thus, the value determined is approximately adjusted including not only summer but also other seasons and further the different latitude. A factor of 3 is introduced to cover for seasons other than summer (see publication), and different latitude is approximately corrected by a factor of 2. Half-life in water due to photodegradation for use in the exposure assessment for man via environment of wash oil is approximated to be ca. 100 days.
