Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Betaines, C12-14 (even numbered)-alkyldimethyl are readily biodegradable and show no toxicity in biodegradation tests. Several biodegradation studies exhibit the readily biodegradability of alkyl dimenthyl betaine. The revealed NOEC is greater than 90 mg/L (Schrem, 2004) and > 27 mg/L for the active ingredient. Therefore, depending on local conditions and existing concentrations, disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge is not anticipated.

Additionally, a Pseudomonas putida test (Stuhlfauth, 1993) conducted according to DIN 38412, part 8 is available for Betaines, C12-14 (even numbered)-alkyldimethyl (EC No. 931-700-2). The EC10 for Pseudomonas putida is 332 mg/L (100 mg/L for active ingredient) and the revealed EC50 is greater than 2000 mg/L (> 600 mg/L for active ingredient).

The test substance can be regarded as acutely not harmful to Pseudomonas putida and inhibition of activated sludge is also not expected.
