On the basis of physical observation and using the sense of smell, 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt was observed to be a white crystalline solid.
Melting point/freezing point
The melting point determination of Test item1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt(CAS No. 128-44-9) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The mean melting point range was determine to be 320.8°C -325.3°C at 979.9 hPa.
Boiling point
The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid which melts above 300°C. The melting point determination of Test item 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt (CAS No. 128-44-9) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The mean melting point range was determine to be 320.8°C -325.3°C at 979.9 hPa.
Density
The density of test item1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt(CAS No. 128-44-9) was determined following OECD guideline 109 and according to themethod recommended in the International Pharmacopoeia, fourth Edition, 2014. The pour density and tapped density of the test item was determine to be 0.8711 g/cm3and 0.9090 g/cm3at 27.4oC and 979 hPa.
Particle size distribution (Granulometry)
The particle size distribution of test item1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt(CAS No. 128-44-9) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was determine to be in the range of 150 micron to 75 micron.
Vapour pressure
The study does not need to be conducted because the melting point is above 300°C. The melting point determination of Test item1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt(CAS No. 128-44-9) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according to Capillary/metal block. The mean melting point range was determine to be 320.8°C -325.3°C at 979.9 hPa.
Partition coefficient:
The partition coefficient of test substance was determined as per the shake flask method (OECD Guideline-107). The log Pow value was determined to be -2.227 ± 0.391 at 25 oC temperature.
Water solubility
The water solubility determination of test item 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt (CAS No. 128-44-9) was done gravimetrically as per the shake flask method using membrane filtration followed by air drying. The water solubility was determine to be 1495.5 g/L at 24 °C. Thus the 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt is considered to be soluble in water.
Solubility in organic solvents / fat solubility
Gravimetric method was used to determine the solubility of the substance in organic solvent. The experimental value of solubility of 1,2 -benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1 -dioxide, sodium salt in alcohol at 25 deg C was determine to be 156200 mg/L indicating that this substance is very soluble in alcohol.Using the Soxhlet/Solvent extraction method the solubility of the substance in Petroleum ether is observed to be 12000 mg/L at 25 °C. The solubility value of 1,2 -benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1 -dioxide, sodium salt in alcohol at 20 deg C is equivalent to 156200 mg/L.
Surface tension
In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement 7.6, this end point was considered for waiver since surface activity was not a desired property of 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt.
Flash point
The flash point determination of Test item1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodiumsalt(CAS No.128-44-9) was done. The method is closed cup method using Pensky-Martens Flash Point Apparatus. The mean flashpoint of the test item was determine to be 220°C at 979.4hPa.
Autoflammability
Temperature at which substance catches fire without the help of a source of ignition such as exposure to air is the basic principle based on which we arrive to a conclusion that the substance 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt is non flammable in nature and so do not have the property of self ignition.
Flammability
The basic principle is to check on how easily a substance can burn or ignite, causing fire or combustion and based on the experimental study we conclude that the substance 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt is non-flammable in nature.
Explosiveness
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.
Oxidising properties
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidizing properties and hence the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

This testing was not conducted since the stability of 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt in organic solvents is not considered to be critical. Moreover, 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt is very soluble in alcohol to the tune of 156 200 mg/L at room temperature of 25 degC.Therefore this study was considered to be waived.

The pH of 1% w/v aqueous solution of the test item 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt (CAS No. 128-44-9) was 6.49 at 29 °C .
Dissociation constant
The experimental pKa value for 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt was found to be 0.00316 at 25 degC indicating that it has dissociation properties.
Viscosity
This end point was considered for waiver since viscosity is an internal property of a liquid that offers resistance to flow and 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt is a solid substance and hence this testing was considered scientifically unjustified for 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt.

Partition coefficient
The Partition coefficient (Pow) of test chemical at 25°C was estimated according to the OECD Guideline No. 107,”Shake Flask Method”.In this method the different volumes of a stock solution (n-octanol pre saturated with water) were shaken with different volume of water pre saturated with n-octanol. After centrifugation, both the aqueous phase and octanol phase were analysed by HPLC. The partition coefficient were calculated, from the measured concentration of test chemical in the organic and aqueous phases.The log Pow value was determined to be -2.227± 0.391at 250C temperature.
By considering this log Pow value it can be concluded that test chemical is hydrophilic in nature and it is also supported by high water solubility of test chemical in water.
Water solubility
The water solubility determination of test item 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt (CAS No. 128-44-9) was done gravimetrically as per the shake flask method using membrane filtration followed by air drying. The water solubility was determine to be 1495.5 g/L at 24 °C. Thus the 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt is considered to be soluble in water.
From other reliable sources & authoritative databases water solubility of 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide, sodium salt was determine to be 825 g/L at 25 deg C indicating that it is soluble in water.
