Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
relative density
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
25 June 2010
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
study well documented, meets generally accepted scientific principles, acceptable for assessment
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: Not stated
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Method used in the study: LCQC 001.
- Before measurement ensure that the instrument is set at the required temperature and that the relative constants have been set correctly.
- Check that the instrument has been cleaned properly, i.e that the air density reading is less than 0.0015.
- Place the sample in a small beaker and place the end of the sampling tube into the sample. Suck up sample into the instrument using a 2 mL syringe.
- Switch on the instrument light and check that there are no bubbles in the sample tube. Repeat the sampling as necessary.
- Switch off the light and allow the sample temperature to equilibrate. This is indicated by the period when the 'cooling' and 'heating' indicator lights are lit for approximately the same time.
- Check that the reading does not vary by more than 1 unit in either direction in 15 seconds.
- Read off the density of the sample.

Type of method:
oscillating densitimeter
Key result
Type:
relative density
Density:

Measurements performed in this study:

Density of water at 20 oC = 0.9982

Density of water at 25 oC = 0.9971

Relative Density of the test item at 25 oC = 1.054

Conclusions:
The relative density of the test item was measured to be 1.054 at 25 oC
Executive summary:
