Short-term toxicity to fish
The 96-h LC50 of mono-n-octyltin trichloride to the Zebra fish (Danio rerio) was greater than 0.33 mg/L. No mortality or abnormal behaviour was observed in the test solution (or the control) during the whole exposure time. Mono-n-octyltin trichloride is not toxic to fish within the solubility limit (< 1 mg/L).
Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
Short-term toxicity of of mono-n-octyltin trichloride to Daphnia magna was determined in a static aquatic system following OECD 202 and EC Guideline 92/69/EEC. No immobilised Daphnia magna were observed in the test solution at saturation. It was determined that the 48 -hr EC50 was greater than the water solubility of the test substance, which is 0.33 mg/L under the test conditions.
Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
The toxicity of trichlorooctylstannane to fresh water green alga (Scenedesmus subspicatus) was determined in a 72 -h growth inhibition test according to OECD Guideline 201 (Alga, Growth Inhibition Test) and in compliance with the OECD principles of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). The ErC50 was determined to be 0.215 mg/L based on the average measured concentrations of the test substance. The NOEC was 0.045 mg/L.
