Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

LC50 nominal (96 h) > 100 mg/L for Danio rerio (EU Method C.1 of directive 67/548/EEC)
LC50 measured (96 h) > 15.6 mg/L for Danio rerio (EU Method C.1 of directive 67/548/EEC)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Acute toxicity of dimethyl phosphonate to the fish species Danio rerio was tested according to EU method C.1 of directive 67/548/EEC. A limit test (100 mg/L) was conducted in a static test system. The test substance concentration was determined by GC-analysis in 24 h intervals. During the exposure period of 96 h no adverse effect on Danio rerio could be observed. Measurements on dimethyl phosphonate concentration showed a decrease of the test substance to an average of 15.6 mg/L. Thus, LC50 measured is greater than 15.6 mg/L and LC50 nominal is greater than 100 mg/L (Bayer AG, 1992).

Another acute toxicity test confirmed the low toxicity of dimethyl phosphonate to fish. Although the test was not conducted according to any current guideline, the method can be accepted as valid. The LC50 was found to be 225 mg/L for Pimephales promelas (Bender, 1969).
